Urogynaecology

Bladder symptoms, pelvic floor concerns and prolapse can affect comfort, confidence and everyday activities. Many women live with these symptoms for years before seeking help, often believing they are a normal part of ageing, pregnancy or childbirth.

At Women’s Specialist Group, Dr Lucy Bates provides specialist urogynaecology care for women experiencing pelvic floor and bladder conditions. Consultations are centred around listening, assessment and clear information, helping you understand your symptoms and the treatment options available.

What is Urogynaecology?

Urogynaecology is a subspecialty of gynaecology for conditions affecting the female pelvic floor, bladder and nearby organs and tissues.

These conditions can develop after pregnancy and childbirth, during menopause or as part of ageing. Symptoms may range from mild inconvenience to concerns that significantly affect daily life.

A urogynaecologist has additional training in diagnosing and managing these complex conditions, including both non-surgical and surgical treatment options.

When to See a Women’s Specialist

Many pelvic floor conditions can be assessed and managed. Seeing a specialist early may give you more options before symptoms become harder to live with.

Women can benefit from seeing a urogynaecologist if experiencing:

Symptoms

  • Urinary leakage or incontinence
  • Frequent or urgent urination
  • Difficulty emptying your bladder
  • A feeling of vaginal bulging or pressure
  • Pelvic heaviness
  • Recurrent bladder symptoms
  • Concerns following previous pelvic floor surgery
  • Symptoms related to vaginal mesh complications
