What is Obstetrics
The role of your obstetrician is to provide expert care throughout your pregnancy, carefully monitoring the health and wellbeing of both you and your baby. Our focus is on supporting a healthy pregnancy and achieving the safest possible birth, working closely with experienced midwives and other healthcare professionals to provide seamless, collaborative care.
Obstetrics is the specialised medical care of women during pregnancy, labour, birth and the postnatal period. At Women's Specialist Group, our experienced obstetricians combine the latest evidence-based knowledge with compassionate, personalised care, ensuring you feel informed, supported and confident throughout every stage of your pregnancy journey.

Pregnancy Care
At Women’s Specialist Group your care is always provided by a female specialist.
At your first appointment, we will discuss your pregnancy journey, outline your recommended schedule of antenatal visits and explain the routine tests and screening that may be required throughout your pregnancy. You will also receive a comprehensive care package containing helpful information and resources to support you during this exciting time.
At each appointment, an ultrasound will be performed to monitor your baby's growth and wellbeing. Your chosen obstetrician will provide your antenatal care and, wherever possible, will also be there for the birth of your baby. However, as obstetrics is unpredictable and your specialist may not always be available, you will have the opportunity to meet the other female specialists within our practice during your pregnancy. This will ensure you always receive exceptional continuity of care and that you feel comfortable and supported by a familiar face whenever you need us.
Birth
Our priority is to promote a safe birth while ensuring you feel informed, supported and confident throughout this important journey.
Our specialists deliver babies at both Westmead Public Hospital and Westmead Private Hospital, working closely with experienced midwives, anaesthetists, paediatricians and other healthcare professionals. We believe that collaborative, multidisciplinary care provides the best possible experience and outcomes for both mother and baby.
While most births progress normally, childbirth can sometimes be unpredictable. If advanced medical or surgical care becomes necessary, your obstetrician will assess the situation and recommend the most appropriate course of action to ensure the safest possible outcome. Delivering at a hospital with immediate access to operating theatres, anaesthetic services and a Special Care Nursery provides reassurance that comprehensive care is available whenever it is needed.

Booking Your Care
When you phone our receptionists, they will estimate your due date and collect your contact details and Medicare and private health insurance details. We will send you a new patient form to fill in, please complete and return email to us along with any blood test results and ultrasounds already performed.
You will need a referral from a GP for each pregnancy to claim a Medicare rebate, and to allow us to communicate with your GP. A referral from another specialist (such as an IVF doctor) only lasts for three months. If you have private health insurance, it’s a good idea to confirm your Obstetric cover and any waiting periods.
