What is Urogynaecology?
Urogynaecology is a subspecialty of gynaecology for conditions affecting the female pelvic floor, bladder and nearby organs and tissues.
These conditions can develop after pregnancy and childbirth, during menopause or as part of ageing. Symptoms may range from mild inconvenience to concerns that significantly affect daily life.
A urogynaecologist has additional training in diagnosing and managing these complex conditions, including both non-surgical and surgical treatment options.
When to See a Women’s Specialist
Many pelvic floor conditions can be assessed and managed. Seeing a specialist early may give you more options before symptoms become harder to live with.

Dr Lucy Bates is an experienced Urogynaecologist with advanced subspecialty training and holds specialist qualifications in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
She has extensive experience in the management of pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, overactive bladder and vaginal mesh complications.
As Vice Chair of the Urogynaecology Society of Australasia, Dr Bates contributes to the ongoing advancement of women's healthcare across Australia and New Zealand.
